First and foremost, understand you have unique needs for your business model. There are just some tasks that cannot be outsourced and need your personal attention. With that in mind, next examine all the areas of your business and find those that could be handled by someone else.
Before you begin assessing those needs, you really need to determine what your time is really worth. Are you utilizing your time efficiently and effectively? By determining what your time is really worth will allow you to determine if you are using it to your fullest.
Now think about what you spend your time on during the work day. How much of this time is busy work, business building work and time spent with paying clients.
Just think, if you cut out 20 hours of work a week by allowing others to assist you with your tasks and projects you could increase your hourly rate by 50%.
So now it is time to ask: Is what I am doing worth the hourly rate I am currently receiving? Now determine if you pay someone else less than your hourly rate would you benefit from the change.
Do what you love…
Determine your need by tracking the following.
- Write down everything you do during the week.
- Rank each task: (L) Love it, (D) It gets done (H) Hate it (P) Procrastinate on it.
- Calculate how much time you spend on each task (including procrastination time).
- Determine what to outsource: All tasks with (H) and (P).
- Once you have a plan consider also adding tasks marked with (D).
After you have clearly defined what tasks and processes you can outsource it is time to think about timelines and guidelines.
